Back to school eye checks

When you were a kid, did you assume that the way your eyes saw things was normal? Of course you did! Which is why 1 in 5 Australian children have eye problems that go undiagnosed.

Kids are incredibly adaptable. They may squint, tilt their head, or sit closer to objects without realising these behaviors indicate a vision problem. If your child has had poor vision since a young age, they might think everyone sees the same way they do.

Many vision problems are easier to treat when caught early, ensuring your child’s learning and development isn’t impacted. So make a vision check part of your back to school routine, this year and every year. Don’t let your child be the 1 in 5 who doesn’t know their world could be clearer and better.

When should my child have their eyes tested?

  • Babies should have their first eye exam at 6 months of age.
  • A second eye exam is important at age 3.
  • Every child should have an eye exam before the start of school, and every 1-2 years thereafter.
